Why take this course?
Learn to recognize and heal inherited trauma through somatic practices, DARe attachment work, and family constellation methods.
Have you ever worked with a client whose challenges seem rooted in something deeper than their own life experiences?
As therapists, we often see clients who struggle with issues that seem disconnected from their personal history––persistent anxiety, unexplained fears, or recurring relationship conflicts that don’t seem to stem from any specific event in their lives.
You sense there’s more beneath the surface, but without knowing how to reach the root of the trauma, you’re left feeling uncertain and less confident in your ability to help your client truly heal.
What many clients and therapists don’t realize is that these issues often point to something deeper––patterns of inherited trauma. These patterns can take various forms, such as intergenerational trauma passed directly from parent to child, transgenerational trauma affecting multiple generations, or even ancestral trauma rooted in historical and cultural experiences.
The problem is that traditional approaches often fall short in addressing these complex patterns. What’s needed? A more holistic approach that includes complementary methods, so you can be flexible and responsive to each client’s unique needs and history.
When you help clients uncover these hidden influences, you open the door to profound healing. They begin to understand the roots of their pain, allowing them to break free from patterns that have controlled their lives and build a future defined by resilience and strength.
Develop a toolkit to address unconscious patterns, build resilience, and break the cycle of inherited trauma.
What you’ll learn?
Develop a toolkit to address unconscious patterns, build resilience, and break the cycle of inherited trauma
Learn to recognize the subtle signs of inherited trauma in yourself and clients, helping them understand how past family experiences shape our behaviors, emotions, and relationships.
Adapt your therapeutic approach to uncover and address the root issues underlying each client’s trauma—staying flexible and responsive to their evolving needs and experiences.
Explore ‘bottom-up’ approaches, including somatic techniques, DARe attachment work, and family constellation methods that alleviate unnecessary pain and suffering.
Empower clients to release the pain of inherited trauma and discover new pathways for personal growth, meaningful relationships, and emotional resilience.
Act as a catalyst for change by guiding clients to transform inherited trauma into wisdom and strength drawn from their ancestral experiences—preventing its transmission to future generations.
Expand your clinical skill set with trauma-informed perspectives that address both the visible symptoms and underlying causes of inherited trauma effectively.
Here’s what’s in the training curriculum…
Session 1
Healing Transgenerational Trauma: From Hidden Pain to Wholeness
In this foundational session, Dr. Peter Levine introduces transgenerational trauma, highlighting how unresolved experiences of our ancestors can shape our emotions, behaviors, and sense of self.
Learn to recognize inherited trauma as unhelpful patterns that often operate unconsciously and explore ways to draw on ancestral strengths to support healing through guided self-discovery. You’ll identify your own patterns and gain a deeper understanding of how these influences operate in your life and relationships.
- Understand why trauma from previous generations can affect your life, often unconsciously.
- Learn how to identify both the challenging and supportive influences within your ancestral lineage.
- Practice somatic techniques to release inherited trauma patterns and deepen your connection with yourself and others.
- Explore ways to turn these insights into practical tools for building resilience and moving from victims of our own history to active participants in our healing.

Session 2
Lessons from Tanzania: Somatic, Family Constellations & Ancestral Healing Practices
In this session, Efu Nyaki introduces a multifaceted approach to healing transgenerational trauma by drawing from somatic practices, family constellation work, and ancestral wisdom from Tanzania.
Explore how generational experiences and emotions are inherited and interconnected—and how family constellation work can connect physical sensations with emotional experiences, helping to process previously inaccessible emotions and leading to deeper healing.
Efu will also introduce practices to release generational burdens like guilt, judgments, and unresolved grief, creating space for connection and growth.
You’ll learn how to integrate ancestral awareness into your practice and life, balancing respect for ancestral legacies with the need to let go of patterns that no longer serve you.
- Understand how we inherit invisible, interconnected experiences and emotions through past generations.
- Learn how family constellations work connects body and emotions for deeper, more effective healing.
- Practice techniques to release generational burdens, including guilt, judgment, and unresolved grief—and find new space for connection and healing.
- Honor ancestral legacies while releasing patterns that hinder growth in you and for your clients.

Session 3
Correcting Parentification Through Role Reversal
This session addresses the complex issue of parentification, where generational boundaries are ruptured––leading a child to take on the emotional or physical caregiving role for a parent or caregiver.
Explore how parentification shapes emotional and relational patterns into adulthood. Dr. Diane Poole Heller will introduce the Therapeutic Role Reversal technique—a powerful tool to heal parentification by addressing core wounds of parents or ancestors.
Diane will also show a client demonstration, highlighting how DARe (Dynamic Attachment Repatterning experience) techniques and strategies break the cycle of intergenerational boundary rupture and can be integrated into therapy sessions.
- Learn how and why parentification shapes long-term emotional and relational patterns.
- Examine the lasting effects of parentification on emotional health and relationships.
- Watch a client demonstration to learn the Therapeutic Role Reversal technique using the DARe approach and see how to integrate it into your therapy sessions.
- Discover how to guide clients in meeting the unmet needs of their parents or ancestors by using an active imagination technique.

Session 4
Healing Intergenerational Trauma: A (Recorded) Live Demonstration with Dr. Levine
In this session, Dr. Peter Levine leads a one-on-one demonstration of bottom-up, somatic techniques to address intergenerational trauma, providing a valuable opportunity to learn directly from him.
See how Dr. Levine uncovers the imprints of ancestral trauma, demonstrating how deeply rooted patterns from our lineage can shape present experiences, often without our conscious awareness.
He guides viewers through body-based techniques that develop somatic awareness, reveal subconscious patterns, and support transgenerational healing. This recorded demonstration offers insights into somatic-based healing, followed by a reflective discussion to deepen your understanding of how to apply these concepts in therapeutic practice.
- Get insights and expand your clinical skills set using somatic techniques to address intergenerational trauma.
- Discover why developing somatic awareness can uncover subconscious patterns and facilitate healing.
- Learn body-based techniques that reveal and support healing from the imprints of ancestral trauma.
- Reflect on the techniques and discussion—practice resolving and integrating your own experiences for more effective healing.

Session 5
Orders of Love: Foundations for Healing and Harmony
In this session, Efu Nyaki introduces Bert Hellinger’s three Orders of Love—Belonging, Hierarchy, and Balance—as a framework for healing transgenerational trauma.
Efu demonstrates how these principles can be applied in therapy or personal reflection. She guides practitioners in helping their clients accept challenging life events, take responsibility within family dynamics, and deepen their relationships as they move forward in the healing process.
- Explore Bert Hellinger’s Orders of Love and their role in resolving transgenerational trauma.
- Understand how promoting Belonging can heal rifts within family systems.
- Apply the principles of Hierarchy to reduce familial burdens and resolve conflicts.
- Examine the importance of Balance in relationships to address patterns of dysfunction.

Session 6
Healing Generational Boundary Rupture
Boundary ruptures across generations can lead to attachment issues and challenges in adult relationships. For example, when children overly identify with their parents’ needs or emotions, they may internalize these struggles, resulting in difficulties such as a lack of personal identity, feelings of guilt, and a preoccupied attachment style. This session explores how unclear boundaries within families can perpetuate trauma across generations.
Through an in-depth analysis of a recorded client demonstration, Dr. Diane Poole Heller discusses how these unhealthy patterns perpetuate and shares strategies for healing.
The session also includes an experiential exercise to help practitioners apply these techniques in their work with clients, addressing the intergenerational patterns that disrupt attachment and relational health.
- Understand how generational boundary ruptures contribute to attachment issues in adulthood.
- Identify the signs of unhealthy boundary patterns and their impact on personal identity and relationships.
- Learn strategies to help clients separate their own emotions from those of their caregivers.
- Apply techniques from the client demonstration to heal generational wounds and improve relational health.
