Five Two-Hour Training Sessions with Dr. David Grand

Across five in-depth sessions, Dr. Grand explores the foundations and clinical applications of Brainspotting through live teaching, real-time demonstrations, and discussion. Rather than presenting Brainspotting as a rigid protocol, he introduces it as a flexible neuroexperiential framework that helps clinicians work with what naturally emerges during therapy.

Each class combines conceptual teaching with direct observation of the work in action, allowing participants to see how eye position, relational attunement, and nervous system awareness inform clinical decision-making in real time.

Live Brainspotting Demonstrations and Clinical Debriefs

One of the most distinctive aspects of this training is the opportunity to observe Dr. Grand working live with volunteer participants.

Each demonstration is followed by an in-depth clinical debrief, where Dr. Grand unpacks the therapeutic choices made throughout the session, highlighting markers of activation, regulation, dissociation, eye-position shifts, and deep processing.

Rather than simply watching a successful session unfold, you’ll learn how an experienced Brainspotting clinician recognizes and responds to what the nervous system is communicating from moment to moment.

Guided Reflection and "Put It Into Practice" Exercises

Each session concludes with optional reflective exercises and practical observations designed to help you integrate what you’ve learned into your own clinical work. These activities encourage you to refine your observational skills, deepen your understanding of the Neuroexperiential Model, and begin applying Brainspotting principles with greater confidence.

Why take this course?

Every experienced therapist has encountered moments when it feels as though a client is approaching something important. A shift in breathing, a change in posture, or a fixed point in the client’s visual field can all signal that the nervous system is moving toward material that sits beneath conscious awareness.

Recognizing these moments is one thing; knowing how to work with them without interrupting or directing the process is another.

Brainspotting grew out of Dr. David Grand’s observation that where we look affects how we feel, and that specific points within a client’s visual field can provide direct access to unresolved trauma, attachment wounds, implicit memory, and deeply held survival responses. Rather than relying primarily on interpretation or narrative, the Brainspotting approach works within the Neuroexperiential Model, following the nervous system’s own movement toward healing and integration.

Throughout this five-session training, you’ll learn directly from the originator of Brainspotting as he demonstrates how experienced clinicians recognize moments of activation, track the unfolding therapeutic process, and make subtle clinical decisions that support deep processing without forcing it. Through live demonstrations, thoughtful debriefs, and practical discussion, you’ll develop a clearer understanding of how to integrate these principles into the work you already do.

Whether you’re new to Brainspotting or looking to deepen an existing trauma practice, this course offers an opportunity to sharpen your clinical observation, expand your therapeutic flexibility, and work with greater confidence when therapy moves beyond words.

Here’s what’s in the training curriculum…

Session 1

Two Tenets of the Neuroexperiential Model: Neurobiology and Meeting Uncertainty Through the Frame

In this foundational session, Dr. David Grand introduces the core principles underlying Brainspotting and the Neuroexperiential Model.

Explore how the visual system provides direct access to trauma held beneath conscious awareness, and learn why Brainspotting prioritizes tracking the client’s unfolding experience rather than imposing interpretation, certainty, or predetermined therapeutic direction.

Session 2

Brainspotting as a Developmental Model: Working with Internal Parts

Learn how Brainspotting can access developmental experiences and internal parts held beneath conscious awareness.

Dr. Grand will share how eye position, relational attunement, and focused mindfulness help clinicians work with protective states, implicit memory, and early survival adaptations—supporting integration without overwhelming the nervous system.

Trauma Solutions: Two people sit on a couch having a serious conversation in a living room with plants and shelves in the background.
Session 3

Culture Comes Before Science: Working with Collective Trauma

In this session, Dr. David Grand explores how trauma extends beyond the individual nervous system into families, communities, cultures, and collective experience.

Learn how Brainspotting approaches mass and collective trauma through a broader neuroexperiential lens—integrating non-Western perspectives, relational understanding, and deep attunement to experiences that cannot always be understood through traditional diagnostic models alone.

Trauma Solutions: A group of people stand outdoors with their arms around each other’s backs, facing away from the camera.
Session 4

The Brainspotting Resource Model: Pacing, Dosing, and Eye Contact

Discover the Brainspotting Resource Model and its role in supporting safe, regulated trauma processing.

Learn how this approach helps clients process deeply without becoming overwhelmed, flooded, or dissociated—supporting greater grounding, integration, and stability while working with developmental trauma, attachment wounds, and highly activated nervous system states.

Trauma Solutions: A woman sits on a couch, listening attentively to another person whose back is to the camera.
Session 5

Brainspotting for Performance, Creativity, and Expansion

In this closing session, Dr. David Grand explores how Brainspotting can be used not only for trauma healing, but for performance, creativity, and human expansion.

Learn how the Neuroexperiential Model helps access deeper flow states, move through creative and performance blocks, and support greater confidence, spontaneity, presence, and self-expression.
