DARe Live Level 2
Attachment Strategies for Adult Relationships

Summary

In this 3-day online workshop, we explore how insecure attachment adaptations––avoidant, ambivalent and disorganized––can influence and impede intimacy and connection in our adult relationships with partners, parents, children, friends and colleagues.

This material builds on the foundational training from Level 1: Fundamentals of Attachment Styles, to take a deeper look at how attachment system dynamics shape communication, behavior, emotions and intimacy in our daily lives.

Through a blend of didactic presentations, demonstrations and experiential exercises, you'll gain a clear understanding of how to apply attachment theory to your clinical practice using an attachment framework based on DARe principles ––including how to recognize and address challenging relational dynamics for yourself and your clients to heal early attachment wounds or disruptions to create deeper connection, meaning and fulfillment in adult relationships.

What will we cover?

  • How to identify and understand unconscious attachment dynamics that block our capacity for intimacy in adult relationships––and how to overcome them in order to achieve better communication.
  • How to 'excavate' early childhood attachment wounds and simultaneously track both secure attachment and the emotional wound to foster a healthy relational space that helps clients heal.
  • Which corrective experiences can be applied to the appropriate insecure attachment adaptation, and how to track and loop back and forth between the wound and the resource.
  • Embody information and theory with break-out group sessions that support learning and allow students to model and practice skills to the training can be integrated into therapeutic sessions easily and effectively.
  • Which tools can help you evaluate clients' attachment adaptation and evaluate client progress as they move towards a more secure attachment style.
  • How to strengthen and restore secure attachment skills in yourself and your clients.

This training will be held ONLINE using Zoom. All necessary Zoom information––as well as login credentials to the learning portal where you can access additional resource materials, slide handouts and recordings of the training (for 60 days) will be emailed to students before the training.

Date/Time

 MT (each day)
Prerequisite: DARe Level 1: Fundamentals of Attachment Style

Before enrolling in DARe Level 2, students must have completed (or be enrolled in) Level 1: Fundamentals of Attachment Styles, which is the prerequisite for all other DARe or Attachment & Trauma Mastery training.

Who Is This For?

  • Clinicians who have completed DARe Level 1 and are ready to deepen their application. You understand the foundations of attachment-informed, somatic work. Now you want greater fluency, precision, and confidence when working with complex relational patterns.
  • Therapists working with developmental and relational trauma. You support clients who present with ambivalent, avoidant, or disorganized adaptations and want more clarity around how to track attachment strategies in real time.
  • Practitioners who want to strengthen their nervous system tracking skills. You value moment-to-moment awareness and want to refine how you recognize shifts in regulation, activation, and defensive responses within the therapeutic relationship.
  • Clinicians seeking greater coherence between theory and practice. You know attachment theory conceptually. You want to embody it, translate it into interventions, and respond more intuitively in the room.
  • Professionals committed to their own growth. You recognize that working with attachment trauma requires ongoing self-reflection and nervous system capacity. You are willing to examine your patterns so you can show up more securely with clients.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify and describe three qualities for each of the insecure attachment adaptations––and how these manifest specifically in adult relationships.
  • Explain and describe the needs and autonomy issues for each attachment style: do clients reject, deny, exagerte or avoid needs (and why)?
  • Demonstrate three contact exercises for interactive regulation.
  • Explain how to apply one specific method for working with the encapsulated child: (a) contact other ages and ego states; (b) move the painful experience(s) through time, so that the frozen-in-time past memories no longer intrude into the present and usurp energy and attention from the here and now; (c) give space for integration into the adult self.
  • Describe and explain two corrective antidotes or transformative healing processes that enhance regulation for disruptive relationship patterns.
  • Identify three types of differentiation: (a) from the family field; (b) in the maturing relationship; and (c) linkage.
  • List and describe three characteristics of securely attached adults.
  • Explain and describe two ways to assess a client's relationship to needs.
  • Identify two relationship needs that relate to each of the four attachment styles: secure, avoidant, ambivalent and disorganized.
  • Describe two exercises to facilitate self-orientation for the avoidant attachment adaptation.
  • List three possible adult relationship challenges for the avoidant attachment adaptation.
  • List three possible adult relationship challenges for the disorganized attachment adaptation.
